Leadership Development
Project Summary

Edinburgh College engaged Leading Kind to support its ambition to strengthen collective leadership capability during aperiod of significant organisational transformation and sector-wide pressure.

‍

Like many large, complex organisations, the College was navigating competing operational demands alongside strategic change. The Board had recently reviewed governance arrangements and there was recognition that sustaining performance and delivering transformation would require continued investment in leadership capability, organisational alignment and ways of working.

‍

The College commissioned Leading Kind to undertake a diagnostic review focused on:

  • senior leadership effectiveness,
  • organisational agility,
  • decision-making and accountability,
  • leadership culture and behaviours,
  • and the conditions required to support sustainable high performance.
Approach

We designed a structured diagnostic process combining:

  • confidential qualitative interviews,
  • review of governance and performance documentation,
  • analysis of leadership and decision-making arrangements,
  • validation surveys,
  • and facilitated development sessions.

‍

The work included engagement with:

  • members of the Executive Team,
  • senior operational leaders,
  • Board representatives,
  • and key governance stakeholders.

‍

Our approach was designed to create:

  • space for honest reflection,
  • a shared understanding of current strengths and barriers,
  • and practical recommendations focused on improving collective leadership effectiveness rather than assigning individual blame.

‍

Alongside the diagnostic work, Leading Kind delivered:

  • a detailed leadership diagnostic report,
  • a Board-facing summary report,
  • an executive and senior leadership development session,
  • and a facilitated discussion session with the Board.

‍

The Result

The facilitated development sessions created space for constructive discussion about:

  • collective leadership expectations,
  • organisational priorities,
  • leadership behaviours under pressure,
  • governance and accountability,
  • and how the senior team wanted to operate going forward.

‍

The sessions enabled leaders and Board members to:

  • reflect openly on the findings,
  • identify immediate priorities for action,
  • agree clearer ways of working,
  • and establish a stronger shared understanding of leadership expectations during change.

‍

The work also helped the College establish a clearer foundation for:

  • strengthening leadership culture,
  • improving organisational agility,
  • enhancing governance and decision-making,
  • and supporting sustainable organisational performance during transformation.
Testimonials

What our client said about us

Here’s what they shared about their experience working with our team.

At Edinburgh College we recognise the importance of the collective impact of our senior team and are committed to building on strong leadership foundations to further enhance our performance, as individuals and as a collective team.

‍

We engaged Leading Kind to support and guide us through a process which included carrying out a diagnostic review of how our senior leadership team operates and facilitated a development session to help us reflect on the findings and agree our next steps.

‍

The work gave us a clear and evidence-based picture of what is working well and where we can enhance our performance. Lynn presented the findings in a constructive and practical way, even when addressing sensitive issues, which helped create the conditions for open and honest discussion.

‍

As a result, our senior team left with a shared understanding of the changes we need to make and clear commitments about how we will work differently going forward. This has given us a clear foundation for strengthening how our leadership team works together and how we lead change across our College.

‍

I valued Lynn’s thoughtful and pragmatic approach and look forward to continuing to work with Leading Kind as we continue our focus on the development of our people and our leaders.
